About Sunset Valley
Sunset Valley is a city within a city. Completely contained within the city limits of Austin, Sunset Valley has its own police department, public works, and its own city administration. There are several areas of open space that the city has set aside for green space as well having a tree-shaded park with a play area for kids and picnic tables. The City of Sunset Valley was incorporated in 1954 when many of the original homes were built.
Living in Sunset Valley
There three sections of Sunset Valley. The first section of homes were built there in the early 1950’s and sit on lots that are between one-half acre and one acre. The streets these homes are on are Sunset Trail, Reese Rd., Pillow Rd., and Lone Oak Trail. The next section is called the Villas at Sunset Valley. This is one of the newer section of Sunset Valley and the homes here were built between 2006 to 2008. They range in size from approximately 2,200 square feet to approximately 3,500 square feet. The third section is called Sunset Valley Meadows. The homes here are on lot sizes between approximately one-half to one acre an the homes are between approximately 2,800 square feet and 4,800 square feet.
Things to do in Sunset Valley
Within the last three to five years there has been a tremendous amount of retail development in and around Sunset Valley. There is a wide variety of dining options there ranging from Carino’s Italian, Chipotle’ Mexican, La Madeleine French Bakery and Cafe, BJ’s Restaurant Brewhouse, and many others. There are also a number of retail shopping choices there such as Nordstrom’s Rack, Kohl’s, DSW Shoes, PetSmart, and many others. For the do it yourself person, there is a Lowe’s Home Improvement and a Home Depot very close by.
